Context is a small, dynamic company in the tours and activities sector of the travel industry. We organize expert-led tours for the intellectually curious in 41 cities worldwide and operate in an increasingly competitive space. We also enjoy a strong customer base and cult-like following.

Our critically acclaimed tours are led by our consortium of MA- and Ph.D.-level scholars and experts, whom we refer to as Docents. They are the face of our organization towards our clients. With a team located in Philadelphia, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Edinburgh, Seoul, and Rio de Janeiro, we currently operate in 42 cities around the world and expanding to more.


The position and goals

The associate program manager  is part of the program management team, which is responsible for managing the docents and operating our daily tours around the world.  This person will report to the program manager, who is based in in the same office in Rome.   

Your goals :

  • Assure a 100% docent fulfillment of our walks in the region
  • Raise the performance of our docents as measured by client surveys and to improve other KPIs related to engagement
  • Work with the docents in the continuous development of their performance indicators:
    • Customer feedback
    • Engagement & responsiveness
    • Workload

Description of main duties

  • Forecast  docent demand in each of the cities
  • Based on volume day-to-day and projected growth,constantly analyze how many docents per day we will need in the different cities
  • Work with docents with their calendar planning
  • Obtain docent availability and come up with ways as to which it should be reflected in our system
  • Recruit and onboard docents
  • Monitor and improve the KPIs of the docents
  • Annual and ongoing training and development of docents, including 1-on-1 and 1-on-many events
  • Programming and management of learning and development events for docents in the regions’ cities    
  • You will be working  in a team of 4 in Rome and 1 remote
  • You will often be traveling to the different cities of the region (around 20-30% of the time)


  • Fluent in English and Italian
  • Experience managing people
  • A strong business acumen
  • A passion for traveling and learning about world culture, history and art
  • An advanced academic degree in humanities
  • Administrative excellence: highly organized and experience managing lots of details
  • Ultimate people person. Enjoy networking and talking to people. You are not afraid of grabbing the phone and confronting situations
  • Strong presence and emotional intelligence.  You enter a room and people notice you. You immediately start networking with individuals.  You relate to many different cultures, and are aware of how to communicate in different wavelengths
  • You enjoy working with spreadsheets. Pivot tables and budget sheets are familiar terms
  • A can-do and nothing-is-impossible approach
  • Demonstrated experience working both as part of a team and independently
  • Willingness to travel (sometimes over weekends) and attending events outside office hours
  • You need to have appropriate documentation to live and work in Rome
